چکیده

Fig. I the reduction is confirmed by an intra-operative roentgenogram. However, there are some cases in which the relationship between the femorab head and the acetabubum cannot be readily discerned from these films ; either because the femoral head is not yet ossified, or because the films are not of sufficiently high quality. Lack of clarity may stem from poor radiological equipment, but sometimes it is due to osteoporosis resulting from prolonged traction (Sharrard 1971 ; Tachdjian 1972) or from immobibisation (Rose 1966; Pennock et al 1972; Uhthoffand Jaworski 1978). To overcome these difficulties we use the following technique. First, we impregnate a piece of sterile gauze with 50% strength Hypaque solution, wrap this around the femoral head, and then reduce the head. The resultant arthrogram clearly demonstrates the relationship between the femoral head and the acetabulum (Fig. 1).

Magnetic resonance arthrography of the hip: technique and spectrum of findings in younger patients

Magnetic resonance(MR) imaging is the reference imaging technique in the evaluation of hip abnormalities. However, in some pathological conditions-such as lesions of the labrum, cartilaginous lesions, femoroacetabular impingement, intra-articular foreign bodies, or in the pre-operative work-up of developmental dysplasia of the hip-intra-articular injection of a contrast medium is required to ob...

Congenital subluxation of the hip. A long-term review.

In 1957 Somerville and Scott described their "direct approach" to the management of established congenital dislocation of the hip; arthrography after a period of traction served to distinguish the dislocated from the subluxated hip. We review the long-term outcome of hips which, using their criteria, were subluxated; 72 hips have been reviewed at periods ranging from 15 to 37 years after treatm...

A long-term follow-up study of open reduction using Ludloff’s approach for congenital or developmental dislocation of the hip

OBJECTIVES There are several reports clarifying successful results following open reduction using Ludloff's medial approach for congenital (CDH) or developmental dislocation of the hip (DDH). This study aimed to reveal the long-term post-operative course until the period of hip-joint maturity after the conventional surgical treatments. METHODS A long-term follow-up beyond the age of hip-joint...

Outcome of one stage combined open reduction, pelvic and derotation femoral osteotomy in congenital dislocated hips of children younger than three years age.

OBJECTIVE To determine the outcome of one-stage combined operative management of congenital dislocation of hips in children aged 18-36 months. METHODS The descriptive case series study was conducted at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi, from January 2005 to December 2011. Children aged 18-36 months suffering from congenital dislocation of hips ...

Open Anterior Hip Dislocation in A Child: A Rare Mechanism of Injury

Traumatic anterior dislocation of the hip is an extremely rare condition in children and open dislocation is even rarer. Thisisusually caused by high-energy trauma. In the current study, we present a case of an eight-year-old child suffering froman open anterior–inferior dislocation of the right hip concomitant with pelvic ring disruption and an ipsilateral open distalfemoral fracture (Salter-H...
